Our modern day lives have become so inundated with rapid information in the form of ones and zeros that I believe we are in extreme danger of losing the most fundamental aspects of our human experience. We need to be rogues and stand our ground. I know it is hard to fight that sweet dopamine response we get from chronically checking our “new messages” and googling other peoples opinions instead of getting our hands in the literal and proverbial dirt to develop our own but I warn you, this is very slippery slope. People don’t just lose their ability to be an athlete, lover or overall dynamic expressive human being over night. This is a product of months and years of small sterile decisions which accumulate to us losing our virility we had when we were 19. We need to adopt the view that we absolutely can become smarter and healthier until the day we die.
Heart attacks, dis-eases and random growths in our body are not so random in my opinion. When we lose touch with our body and mind at their various levels, we are running the chance of the system wandering down some very rocky roads. I encourage and challenge our culture to become immersed in their physical experience. To connect with others, to dance, to embrace awkwardness, to experiment, to become captivated by your life. We generally do not realize all we have until our connections becomes threatened. Please, don’t wait to lose yourself in a disembodied melee of Facebook, bluetooth and artificial cheesy poofs.
Ironic that I am laying on my floor (instead of SITTING at a desk I should add) writing about this on a computer but I guess this is a perfect example that technology is an incredible tool for communication and world integration. A hammer can be used to build a house (good) or knock someone over the head (bad). Use these tools wisely instead of being used by them and the agendas of their corporate masters…
So what do we do about this?
1) Be sure to make it outside at least an hour every day and go for a “freestyle” walk or run. Take consistent breaks from your computer work. Put your breaks in your schedule to be sure not to miss them. Look into “Grounding” sheets/mats as an option to maintain continual connection with the ground.
2) Get the computer the heck out of your bed and especially sitting it on your crotch. Give yourself at least 90 minutes of no bright screens before bed. We are tricking our bodies into becoming stimulated right before bed. Not to mention, having a computer or T.V. in bed has been shown to negatively impacts sex life and overall libido and ability achieve deep sleep.
3) Turn your phone/computer to airplane mode as often as possible and or leave them in the car or at the house. Is it really that important you are able to be contacted literally 100% of the time? We’ve made it through a few million years without and that’s why our phones take messages anyway. (My computer is on airplane mode as I write this and I am listening to music I have downloaded previously)
4) Make eye contact, hug people and have genuine interactions-Stop talking about the weather go a bit deeper. Play this game with yourself-Make a point to observe the color of everyones eyes you come in contact with. If they’re pretty, tell the person!
5) Get your hands and mouths in the dirt and eat only organic “REAL” food. Baby steps, start by just adding more organic real food to your diet and slowly you will realize how good it makes you feel and accept nothing else.
I know some of these steps may seem like absolute insanity to some people. “Leave my phone in the car while I grocery shop! Never!” Give yourself a break from the EMF’s (electromagnetic fields) as much as possible because we are currently test subjects for the long-term impacts of all this radiation whether we like it or not. Let’s be wise about our participation in the non-voluntary study!
